About EventCalc

Quantity questions for parties are almost always answered with round numbers of unknown origin. That is fine for four people but not for eighty, where the amount decides the cost and whether food runs out or gets thrown away. EventCalc is an attempt to answer the same question verifiably — with the origin of every figure visible.

The first step is checking whether a sound figure exists for a question — from cooking portals, retail or catering practice. That figure is stored unchanged, including its range if the source gives one. Only then does EventCalc pick a calculation value from it, and both are reported separately.

Where no source exists, that is stated. A missing price stays "missing" and is never counted as €0; an incomplete cost estimate is never presented as a final total. The details are in the methodology and on the sources page.

In the planner you enter your guest count and dishes, and get quantities per dish, a consolidated shopping list with pack counts and surplus, the equipment needed, and a cost estimate with its price coverage stated. The finished plan exports as a PDF shopping list or as a multi-sheet Excel file.

All quantities are planning guidance, not guaranteed requirements: appetite, occasion, time of day and the composition of the menu all shift actual consumption. EventCalc conducts no research of its own and relies solely on the publications cited.

The price references relate to German food retail and are user-reported market prices — they vary by location and date. For planning outside Germany the quantities remain usable; the prices only to a limited extent.

EventCalc is available in German and English. Both languages use the same calculation engine and the same sources — only labels, number formats and wording differ.
